Good news everybody, The 2020 NFL Draft will continue on the scheduled date! However, the most hyped sporting event will proceed without the usual pomp and flair. The NFL announced the draft would begin on Thursday, 23 April and end on Saturday, 25 April.
Cheers of joy from NFL diehards all over the world met this news. Many fans could not hold their excitement as they tweeted and retweeted. The initial cancellation of the event dashed hopes young NFL hopefuls, but they now have something to make them smile. However, it’s not party time just yet.
Las Vegas Events Cancelled
The NFL will still hold the draft, but it will be televised in consideration of the Covid-19 pandemic. All the public events and parties scheduled for Las Vegas are cancelled. A statement issued by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell read in part, “This decision reflects the NFL’s primary concern– the safety and well-being of all supporters and Las Vegas residents.”
The commissioner also took some time to thank the Raiders and the City of Las Vegas for their continued support. He even moved fast in reassuring the Las Vegas Convention Center (which was to host the draft and related fan fair) of future NFL drafts.
How to Enjoy the 2020 Draft
It seems that you won’t be taking that road trip with your buddies to Vegas this year. That’s quite a drag, especially considering what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. There will be no tailgating parties or outdoor barbeques either. You can also forget about hosting all your neighbours for a viewing party. Here are a few ways to enjoy the experience:
- Facebook viewing party: You can schedule a Facebook party and invite all your friends to log in and comment. Best of all, you won’t have to provide snacks and drinks.
- Google Hangouts: This is even better since you can see each other and give each other virtual high fives.
