The Super Bowl is an annual match, the American Super Football Cup (or American football) competition, held on the first Sunday of February each year.
Super Bowl is one of the most prestigious and “heavy” sports events in the world. The Super Bowl trophy is called Vince Lombardi Trophy. Who is Vince Lombardi and is there anything special that is named for this prestigious booty?
The outstanding coach
Lombardi was born on June 11, 1913 in New York, into an Italian immigrant family. In his youth, Lombardi studied priesthood (working in churches). He was also given the opportunity to study law and finance. However, all are not suitable for Lombardi. He was born not to follow those disciplines.
Lombardi was born for American football. In 1939, he was invited by his former teammate to be the assistant coach of the American football team at St Cecilia High School. Too excited with this invitation, Lombardi actively shortened his honeymoon period to receive a new job.
During his coaching days at St Cecilia School, Lombardi concurrently led the school’s basketball team. Although not knowledgeable about basketball, he still helped the St Cecilia’s basketball team go through a series of 32 unbeaten matches. That feat further showed Lombardi’s special leadership.
Vince Lombardi is the greatest coach in NFL history
The turning point in Lombardi’s career came in 1959. He was appointed coach of the Green Bay Packers team at the American Professional Football League (NFL). At that time, Green Bay Packers had just experienced the worst season in their history and almost went bankrupt. In the first season of leading the Green Bay Packers, Lombardi was named the Best Coach of the Year at the NFL.
In 1961, 1962 and 1965, Lombardi brought Green Bay Packer 3 times to win the NFL. When it was 1966, Lombardi and Green Bay Packer won the first Super Bowl match in history. The following year, Lombardi teachers and students continued to celebrate winning the Super Bowl.
